I usually visit two subreddits about bitcoin: r/bitcoin and r/btc.
The problem is that both accuse each other of agenda pushing. It's hard to get an objective view onto matters because of this weird behaviour.
I would really love to hear about your experience because:
- Zapread isn't censored but only voted down eventually
- Since this a a smalll community for now I believe everyone is real and I havent seen any "hard trolling" yet
Correct me if I'm wrong on anything:
r/bitcoin was founded to have a place for the community but with a growing community the mods moderated more (as in deleting all alt coin discussions because r/BITCOIN) but already 2015 people didnt like that so r/btc was founded. Today most used by Bitcoin Cash users and people banned from r/bitcoin. Roger Ver for example also participates there.
Why are people assuming that you're trying to traduce Bitcoin call if you call it Bcash?
I want to have a discussion with people on here since I see many uploads of pics but rarely interaction.
Examples:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/bar621/can_we_have_a_civilized_discussion_about_ln_and/eke8dte/ a reasoning of a mod for the perma ban of a user with questionable reasons IMO
https://www.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/baxpk0/did_anyone_notice_the_2nd_to_the_top_post_on/ r/btc talking about r/bitcoin
r/bitcoin moderation is removing things they considered off-topic, like discussions of altcoins. To some this came off as censorship. I joined r/bitcoin around 2010. I have watched it evolve over time. The scaling debate was really quite damaging to Bitcoin overall - and that's when r/btc formed. The r/btc group ended up forking off bitcoin cash. They were vehemently opposed to segwit. At this point, the r/btc group was viewed by r/bitcoin as holding things back, and r/btc wanted bigger blocks. When the hard-fork happened, the r/btc group abandoned BTC altogether. I think it's a shame they control the r/btc subreddit since it's very confusing. They should all leave and go to r/bch or r/bitcoincash or something.
Segwit activated through consensus voting of miners. There is no debate that bitcoin chose to implement segwit. bch went off into their own coin. BCH fans are trying to convince people to use their coin instead of Bitcoin. They own bitcoin.com and the bitcoin twitter handle. This is one obvious reason for animosity between the groups. But, since bitcoin is decentralized and without governance, there is no trademark or legal recourse (which is by design).
Ask yourself this: is it an honest tactic to convince visitors to bitcoin.com to use bitcoin cash (BCH) instead of bitcoin. If someone owned bitcoincash.com and directed users to bitcoin (BTC), how would they react?
I'm not sure if all this banning to that extent on r/bitcoin is okay in any sense... especially if it plays into the wrong hands.
I'm aware about Roger Vers ownership of bitcoin dot com and the misleading that follows. Isnt also the @bitcoin twitter linked to bitcoin cash/ roger Ver ? At this point I cant see any reason to have money on the BCH chain since it can be taken over any time but some real mining power from the btc chain.
But then again they often quote Luke Dashjr Jr who, in all respect of the time commitment wisdom and energy he put into the project, has some world view which I cant agree on which makes me question his actions. Reducing the blocksize was a rather playing the devils advocate proposal by him. Nonetheless I'm happy the core defs put security in first place and the speed of development behind!
Even if all facts seem to point to a rather obvious solution I still cant wrap my head around that the whole BCH community has been decieved just to still keep mining with Asic Boost. It would be weird to have the market fluctuation in BCH only due to manipulation and gullible victims but theh ockham razor says so.
Your original question was about the reddit groups - and so I am just pointing out that r/btc is not exactly innocent, and the behaviour of r/bitcoin is also not outside of what you would expect on reddit.
Bottom line - they are both acting poorly.
What I also learned from this post is that the community of this site isn't yet ready to have a discussion... I tried to be provocative and also dumbed down my points just to be accessible and something to discuss for everybody but you're the only one replying so far. This post had 229 "Impressions" right now and multiple people were active enough to post themselves since my post but no one else replied. Does this mean people are discouraged from commenting because it doesn't "pay off" so well in means of satoshis..... Or are people just not genuinely interested in interacting different from posting some pic quickly and then watch how/if it pays off.
Especially @Kingfisher you seem to be very interested in politics: The national politics/ Trumps policy are hard to reach and even harder to influence. Bitcoins community is small and Zapreads even smaller so it would be a lot easier having politic discussions on this level but your absence in the comments shows no interest on this niveau.
You are right. I haven't advertised Zapread at all. It is only word of mouth so far. I also need to create better monitary incentives for commenting.
In any case, adding an achievements system and improving the reputation system will help. Maybe that's what I should be working on next...
