Day 1 (and day 2): a long and somewhat tedious trip. Our plane left Halifax at 2 pm on a lovely and sunny fall day.
We hopped to Toronto and then it was off to Frankfurt. Rocketman was good (I would rate it 7 or so), Beauty and the Beast was better (8) and Murder on the Orient Express was a surprise! Incredibly I don’t think I’ve ever seen it or read the book because I was surprised by the ending!
6 hours in the Frankfurt airport was looooonnnnnnggggg! Starting to get tired! A short trip from Frankfurt to Istanbul via Luftansa (I’ve always liked Luftansa - a bit more leg room and good service). Istanbul airport is GINORMOUS! Beautiful, clean, open but ginormous! Decent research aimed us in the direction of the IstanbulKart kiosk for the transit system (buy the card and then load money on it-busses won’t take cash or credit cards), bus IS-20 in Bay 17, 18 TL or about $4.50 CDN. It took about an hour to get from the airport to Sultanahmet Square and by that time it was dark. But this was the sight that greeted us when we got off the bus! Hagia Sophia.
