Yes - this is a post in the space group, but I'm going to show a coin that I have.  I'll explain the connection to space.

This is a 1979 Susan B Anthony Dollar.  These are collectible and probably worth a bit more than face value.

This silver dollar is notable for two things.

  1. It is the first US coin with a woman on it.
  2. The Eagle.

The Eagle

The significance of the year this coin was introduced - 1979 is the 10 year anniversary of a big event in space: the first humans landing on the moon in 1969.

The Apollo 11 mission had an insignia showing an eagle landing on the moon.  Most people have probably heard the phrase "the eagle has landed".  Well this should make a bit more sense if you look at the Apollo 11 insignia.

If you compare this eagle with the back of the coin - you will see the same eagle.  I think this is a neat coin collectible for anyone interested in space history.
