Unfortunately, I wasn't around for the ultimate human performance in the entire history of mankind: the Apollo 11 landing on the Moon on July 21, 1969. Nevertheless, I have quite some books and toys about it. I am counting down with #MoonlandingMemories on twitter untill July 21 and will be posting the pictures also here on Zapread.
I've seen someone build this rocket on Youtube, supposedly a dozen or so hours, but it's very well reproduced.
It is scale 1:100 and very robust, which is a challenge with LEGO. Also, this set has 1969 pieces. Not a coincidence but quite a challenge for the designers if that is a constraint.
Building it took me 4 evenings of each about 2.5 hours
Ok, now we need a 1:10 scale model, which includes the lander at Lego-people scale. ;) That must have cost a fair amount.
